Organization Etiquette
Also known as: org etiquette, organisation etiquette
PC organizations are given a large amount of leeway in their operations, as long as they maintain consistency in their purposes. For example, an organization founded for the purpose of exploring Hyphae should behave with that purpose in mind. Cross-talk between unrelated activities is to be expected -- exploring is a complicated task and sometimes requires work that isn't strictly clambering into caves.
However, an organization that has a purpose should not be widely competing in niches outside of that purpose. For example, a guild of explorers should not also be selling large quantities of crafted goods, while also offering their services as mercenaries or criminal infiltrators.
There are two reasons for this etiquette:
First, having your organization focused on a specific purpose helps members find an organization that fits their specific roleplay goals, as well as allows staff to predict what sorts of plots and interactions your organization might find compelling.
Secondly, this etiquette rule prevents a single organization from leveraging their successes in one area in order to dominate all niches in the game. A single organization handling exploration, crafting, military contracting and criminal enterprise provides less narrative opportunity than four organizations handling one of these roles each. By keeping organizations true to their purposes, Rhizome aims to not be dominated by one or two very populous, very nebulous organizations.
