Speech
Also known as: language, languages, say, shout, speak, speaking, talk, tell, think, whisper, yell
Roleplay can be broken into two major vectors in Rhizome, verbal and physical. Verbal roleplay is governed by the speech family of commands:
Command Aliases Who hears it say <message> " ' Everyone in the room tell <person> <message> say to Everyone in the room, addressed to one whisper <person> <message> Only that person talk <message> Your party, or those at your furnishing yell <message> shout Your room, and rooms up to 4 exits away think <message> Only you... usually
A tell is addressed to one person, but it's not private. When you whisper or talk, the room sees you whispering to someone or talking with your companions, but not what you say. Your party is your leader and their followers who are here. Thoughts stay inside your own head -- though some people might be able to get in there, too...
You can include a nested physical emote inside your verbal commands using a parenthetical, for example:
say (leaning on ^me's staff) It is a long road yet. Tokens work the same way as described in the helpfile for emote.
When you speak to people in the same room as you, it will show them who speaks to them via your short description along with whatever emote. When yelling, however, they will hear only your gendered voice: a female, male, or indistinct voice calling from your direction. The farther away someone is from you, the less likely they are to make out everything you're saying. Being submerged and other boundaries like doors will make yells muffled to an additional degree.
All verbal commands parse through language. You can change the language you're speaking via speak <language>. Speak by itself will list the languages you know, and languages are also skills visible in your skill sheet. Listeners understand spoken languages at their own fluency -- words they do not know will come across garbled. Speakers also speak at their own fluency, so you can have words garbled because a novice speaker flubbed them, and words garbled because a novice listener misheard them. Each character starts with their race's native tongue at full fluency, and in the case of colonists, King's Tongue (common) at full fluency as well.
Whisper and talk can be intercepted by people eavesdropping, see its skill file for more information.
