Farming
Also known as: aquaculture, cut, cutting, cuttings, farm, garden, gardening, planting
Isn't it annoying to have to schlep the highest peak of Mount Face-Shatter every time you want to pick the rarest white flower for your alchemical reaction? If you agree, farming is for you.
Farming requires an outdoor room in player housing -- either an interior courtyard garden, or an external room at the entranceway. In these rooms, you can take cuttings from rare or common plants found via harvesting and plant them to grow. The number of cuttings you can gain per plant is limited based on your farming skill, and is a function of the maximum quality of the plant's highest quality material. Note that you must harvest cuttings from plant nodes, not harvest the plant directly. This requires you to stand in the room with the plant. No free lunches, you must climb Mount Face-Shatter at least once to get started. The good news is that you can then harvest cuttings from the plants you grow yourself, allowing you to expand without trekking back up.
Each outdoor room can only handle a finite number of individual plants. What you trade in convenience, you lose in time -- cuttings take time to grow. Plants growing in your garden also require water, and will only grow when provided water of a suitable quality based on, again, the maximum quality of their highest quality material. Once plants you have been farming finish growing, you can turn them into additional cuttings or harvest them as you would wild plants. The time it takes for plants to finish growing is, unsurprisingly, based on the maximum quality of their highest quality material. High quality plants take longer to grow.
