Sdesc

Also known as: short description

A short description, also known as sdesc, is a compact, single-line description of a person, item, or NPC and is the most common way that the game engine will refer to a thing in Rhizome. For example, witnesses someone attacking an NPC or picking up an item, you will see:

A short, stocky dwarf attacks a two-headed leonine beast!

A flame-haired woman with one arm gets a jug of shimmering purple liquid.

A short, stocky dwarf, a two-headed leonine beast, a flame-haired woman with one arm and a jug of shimmering purple liquid are all the short descriptions of the actors and the acted upon. Since your character will be referred to by their short description so often, it is important to select something you are happy with, is distinctive, and remains in-character. Short descriptions are not possible to change without staff assistance, so be sure you're satisfied with what you pick!

References to real world people and places are not allowed in a short description. Equally important, your short description and your long description should avoid authoritative statements about feelings or opinions. For example, an extremely beautiful man and a woman with intimidating eyes are not good short descriptions. If you wish to play an extremely beautiful man, or a woman with intimidating eyes, your beauty or intimidation should be described in physical terms in your long description, and be established in how you roleplay with your emotes.

During play, you may have the opportunity to customize the descriptions of items, which has its own system and set of rules.
