Search
Also known as: perceive, perception, spot, spotting
Search is a natural perception skill, meaning all characters receive it for free. Search performs its functions automatically. Hidden and disguised things present in rooms in which you look will roll opposed checks against your search skill to determine if you detect them or identify them respectively. Searching has an internal cooldown of once every thirty seconds: you cannot spam look in a room and improve your chances of seeing someone. Hidden characters are not informed if you have spotted them. Search also determines your likelihood to detect someone sneaking through the room -- if you beat their hide skill for that movement, you will see them enter or leave.
Search also opposes ambush attempts. At the last moment, if someone is creeping up on you to strike from hiding, you will perform a final search check. Succeeding will negate their attempt to ambush; failing will provide them a single massively bonused strike as they catch you flat footed. Your search skill is strongly impacted by environmental conditions like weather and visible light.
Search is trained by attempting to spot someone, or something hidden with sufficient skill.
Search is governed by wisdom (primary) and intelligence (secondary).
