Riss

The Riss are a race of agile, feline humanoids that hail from Burros. Unlike humans and dwarves, the Riss were slow to adopt the sweeping societal cohesion that led to the rise of nation-states. They spent the vast majority of their history as nomadic people living in tight social groups with their immediate kin. Unlike many dwarves, the Riss were easily swayed by the preaching of Delar and some of the most devoted worshippers of the Church are Riss. In response to their acceptance, Eldys and other Delarian majority nations typically preserved large tracts of wilderness for their new converts to continue their old nomadic ways. Despite this, human cities usually have a noticeable minority of Riss in them.

Physically Riss are approximately human height, though the variance around that mean is more noticeable. The average Riss stands at 5'10", and typically ranges from as small as 4'5" to as tall as 7'3". Their features are decidedly feline overall, but surprisingly variable, with coats that range into almost any color, including steely-blue and patterned stripes and spots. They are faster than humans and more wise, but typically are less intelligent, and less strong.

Riss socially tend to be very conservative, and they struggle innovating new ideas or concepts, though they generally are more capable of adopting new concepts taught to them by others. Riss tend to be very cautious, observant, and patient, making them incredibly reliable as scouts, spies, hunters, and diplomats. They do have a habit of appearing aloof to other races, but this is largely due to a trend towards stoicism in the species.

Riss tend to struggle to get along with dwarves, with whom they have a natural antagonism. They find the flighty and impulsive nature of dwarves to be reckless and outright dangerous when compared to their more stable, reserved personalities. There have been a number of historic wars fought between the two people before humans intervened and soothed relations.

Riss are frequently active members of the clergy due to their affinity for preserving tradition and upholding ancient belief. Their singular focus and ability to stay on task and make observation also makes them fantastic clerks, merchants, and government officials, especially due to their love of following protocols and established conduct.

Riss are swift runners and agile climbers, but their speed requires a lanky, slender build that leaves them somewhat less powerful than other races. They typically make use of their agile nature and can move stealthily. Their perceptive nature makes them very skilled at spotting hidden prey and tracking their footsteps.
