Hide

Also known as: ambush, ambushes, hidden, hiding, sneaking, stealth, stealthy, vanish

Hide is a stealth skill that governs your ability to obscure yourself from view and pass undetected. When you first hide, your skill with hide opposes the search of those around you. Those your skill outclasses see you melt into the environment and functionally disappear from their view; those who outclass you see you merely attempting to hide. You may also choose to use vanish to report that you melt into the surroundings for added flair to those that fail the check; those that beat you still see you attempting to hide, which is funny.

Command What it does
hide Hide yourself
vanish Hide yourself with an ostentatious message
hide <object> Conceal an item in the room (under 10 kg); it hides with your skill and Agility
reveal Come out of hiding (also used to give up a disguise)

You may hide an object sufficiently small, and it will inherit your hide skill until it is discovered. While hiding, all movement from place to place is hidden to those insufficiently perceptive to see you passing. When someone looks in the room, your presence will simply not be served to them if they cannot see you with their search skill. Every thirty seconds, a character looking in the room with you in it will automatically roll against your hide and has a chance of seeing you.

Moving, emotes, and speech are seen and heard only by those who can see you. Attacking someone from stealth gives you a 50% bonus to your attack roll, and potential additional bonuses to flat damage depending on your weapon of choice. Weather and darkness greatly affect stealth.

Note: If you are hidden, you will not trigger the consent warning in prompts. This means that other players consenting in a location will not be able to intuit if there is someone present who is not consenting. For the purposes of enforcement, you are presumed to be consenting if you remain. CONSENT PANIC to get out of there, which will not issue a message to alert anyone to your presence.

Hide is trained by being used in the presence of sufficiently perceptive individuals or wildlife.

Hide is governed by agility (primary) and wisdom (secondary).
