Equipment

Also known as: eq, equip, rem, remove, ueq, uneq, unequip, wear, wield

Equipment refers to anything your character is currently wearing or wielding. Equipment can range from weaponry such as a longsword or spear that augments your character's combat abilities, tools like awls and smithing hammers, light sources, containers like pouches and packs, to pure fashion items like hats, rings, and anklets.

When you type equipment or eq for short, you will see a list of your character's current equipment:

Certain equipment can be covered by equipment in other slots, such as the ring above being covered by the gloves. Note that the diamonds to the right of the equipments' sdescs denote the relative quality of that item. If an item is covered, it is inaccessible, so you will not able to unequip or remove it without removing the covering equipment. Similarly, you cannot equip or wear a ring when you are already wearing gloves, and have to take them off first.

When another player looks at your character, they will see all the equipment you are wearing so long as it is not covered by something else. This equipment is appended after their long description.

>look me
You look at a guy who looks like the admin of rhizome.

Woah, it's John Rhizome himself.

[body] a generic leather vest ◆
[hands] a pair of thick cloth gloves ◆
[main hand] a sharp longsword affixed with a crossguard ◆
[back] a hardy backpack of scaly crocodilian leather ◆
[walking, 100hp, 100mv, oo]

Notice that the ring is not visible, as it is covered by the gloves. Also note that the quality of your items are visible to anyone looking at you.

Equipment can be worn in multiple slots -- for example, a ring can be worn on any of your ten fingers. A sword can be wielded in one or both hands. You can equip longsword both_hands in order to brandish it in both hands. Alternatively, you can just equip longsword and the game engine will select the first available slot.
