Position
Also known as: posture, sit and rest
Your character's position is the current orientation of their body in space.
SIT will place your character in the sitting position, and SIT ON <furniture> will sit upon a viable piece of furniture -- a barstool, a bed, at a table. You cannot move while sitting. Your stamina will recover about a quarter faster than if you were standing, but if you are attacked while sitting, your ability to defend yourself will be modestly affected. You will naturally regenerate health while sitting so long as you are above half of your maximum hitpoints.
REST is a deeper recline, where your character is prone. It is also the position you find yourself in if you are knocked to the ground, by force or by falling unconscious. If you are resting, your stamina will recover 50% faster than if you were standing, and there is a stamina recovery floor in resting that will help you recover if you totally exhaust your stamina. However, if you are attacked in this position, you will take a larger penalty to your defense than if you were sitting. Additionally, resting is one of the few ways besides alchemy to recover your health if you have been wounded beyond half hitpoints.
STAND will lift you up and bring you back to your feet. You recover stamina normally on your feet, but suffer no defensive penalties whatsoever. You will recover health while standing so long as you are above half your total hitpoints.
There are other positions, for example, being unconscious, but they are accessible only by misadventure.
Sitting at or resting on a piece of furniture with other people doing the same allows you to TALK to them.
