MOVEMENT AND TRAVERSAL

Movement in Rhizome is chiefly handled through cardinal or referential movement.

Direction Alias Direction Alias
north n northwest nw
south s up u
east e down d
west w in in
northeast ne out out
southeast se southwest sw

You can additionally traverse between rooms by clicking the available direction above the room description when you look.

Movement will cost some stamina, depending on the circumstances like terrain and skills where applicable. You cannot move when out of stamina, and depending on the circumstances, very bad things can start to happen. Movement is referential to the type of room you're in:

Walk: On ordinary ground
Wade: Water that is shallow enough for a character of your height to stand in.
Swim: Water that is too deep for your character to stand in.
Climb: Sheer surfaces like cliff-faces and shafts.

There are some effects that will prevent you from moving before you resolve them, for example:
Sitting down
Resting
Plummeting towards the ground
Being incapacitated, unconscious or paralysed
Being currently engaged in combat (see flee and disengage)

Movement can be inherited from a leader -- your character can automatically follow or be followed by other characters or NPCs. Movement is also affected by stealth -- a hiding character automatically attempts to move stealthily to the best of their ability when moving. Diving will allow you to submerge under deep water and explore below the surface.

You will also occasionally be able to ENTER things in the world, like tents, caverns, and player constructed buildings.
