Hyphae is an unknown land for the colonists, and one of the most fundamental tasks of the expedition is to catalogue and explain its creatures, flora, resources, and people. Many of these things are unique to this place and have never before been seen or documented on Burros. As such, there is a substantial need for documentation to be provided by observing the environment.
This task is the main focus of the Royal Eldyian Academy, an NPC organization that is part of the expedition. Once established, the Royal Eldyian Academy is open to members. Members of the Academy are able to log discoveries and findings with the receptionist at the academy, who will record those findings. Functionally, the process is this:
1. An academy member discovers something that they believe has not been registered with a name to the Academy.
2. The member types catalogue <thing>. Its sdesc will be stored in their personal catalogue.
3. The member returns to the academy and reports their finding, and it is confirmed whether it has not been yet reported.
4. In the case of a novel finding, the member is given the opportunity to name their finding, at which point it is registered in the Academy's records.
In addition to the registry of discoveries, there is the Royal Library at the Academy. All registered discoveries can be written about there by Academy members, and any book there can be read by any member of the colony, regardless of membership. Writings there are entirely in-character and should reference description, habitat, location, behavior, taste, smell, use, and so forth for whatever discoveries are there.
